Sized for real knit stitches

Knit stitches are wider than they are tall, so a chart made from square pixels knits up squashed. SoraStitch sizes the chart from your stitch and row gauge so the finished piece keeps your photo’s proportions.

Choose intarsia for big picture blocks, or Fair Isle for two-colour motifs — each gets its own checks, from bobbin counts to float length.

Tips for better results

Use your row gauge

Knitting charts need both stitch and row gauge. Enter both, and the photo keeps its proportions when knitted.

Simplify for intarsia

Every colour block needs a bobbin. AI cleanup and a lower colour count make photo intarsia much more pleasant.

Place it on a garment

Chart the picture at the size you want, then place it on your sweater pattern's front or back panel.

Good to know

Intarsia or Fair Isle — which should I pick?

Intarsia suits big blocks of colour like a pet portrait. Fair Isle suits small repeating motifs with two colours per row.

Can I make a sweater with it?

You can chart a picture to place on a sweater. Garment shaping and sizing aren’t generated — use your sweater pattern for that.

Can I knit a photo in Fair Isle?

You can, but photos often need more than two colours per row. SoraStitch will flag rows that are hard to strand; intarsia usually suits photos better.

What yarn weight should I use?

Any weight works: enter the gauge from your swatch and the chart and yardage are calculated for it.
